Stephen Bellum is an attorney on the firm’s Chemistry & Life Sciences team.

Stephen works closely with biotechnology and pharmaceutical industry clients to develop and support their intellectual property procurement and commercialization strategies. In support of those objectives, he draws from his diverse technical background and years of experience representing clients before the USPTO to provide cradle-to-grave strategies for obtaining robust U.S. patents. Such strategies include crafting patent applications to support successful U.S. and international patent prosecution, and the development of long-standing working relationships with patent practitioners worldwide to coordinate foreign patent procurement. In addition to directing patent prosecution matters, Stephen also assists clients with international IP portfolio management, freedom to operate determinations, and licensing matters.

Post-doctoral fellow at the Maine Medical Center Research Institute, where he focused on the release mechanisms of the pro-angiogenic factors FGF-1 and IL-1α, and studied regenerative medicine.
